Internet Marketing – Confessions of a Newbie Part II
March 13th, 2010
Don’t know if any other newbies are facing the same problems as me. Each morning when opening my inbox there are what seems like hundreds of freebie offers for the latest covert, overt, white hat, black hat, top secret, confidential new twist on an old or new theme. Affiliate marketing, using twitter, social bookmarking, list building…..an endless list of “new methods” streams into my various email accounts. Of course I am fascinated by the well written sales letters (of course I hope to write letters like that myself one day!) which each take 5-10 minutes to read and another few to hover over the “add to my cart” button. If anyone is like me, I hover for a few minutes knowing full well there is a catch, which is likely a subscription which I will forget to cancel on time until I see $97 or $47 on my credit card bill. What is an erstwhile internet marketer to do?
You can buy, buy, buy and then return, return, return. You can take the freebies and make note to be sure to cancel the subscription on time (somehow it doesn’t seem right though). You can buy and find a really good informative product and keep it – stopping all other projects to study this new one. This sometimes results in never getting back to the original project at all! Or fretting over the fact that you have left it half finished and thereby increasing your stress level due to a lack of accomplishment. Result…..numerous half baked ideas anyone of which could be a winner given the proper attention. Ahhhhhhh I have actually been losing sleep over this. Losing sleep and filling up folders with great videos and PDF’s of stuff I must get to one day.
Today is the first day of the rest of my internet marketing career
This week I took the plunge and invested in Frank Kern’s Mass Control 2.0. It is a big investment and one I cannot afford to mess up on. One which I must devote hours each day for one month, one measly little month. Allowing myself no distractions with other products. (I can feel the withdrawals already). This is like a 12 step program and I must adhere. Here is my pledge…some would say it is a copout but here goes…..from 25th February to 25th March
1) I will only try freebies and will say no to upsells.
2) I will spend no more than 15 minutes per day reading sales letters for new products
3) If I must buy something it will cost no more than $17
4) If I do buy something for $17, I will not buy more than 3 things in the period noted
5) I will devote my entire morning to Frank and MC 2.0
6) I will twitter once in the morning and once in the evening something of interest to my followers
7) I will schedule time to review the freebies I download. Never to interfere with MC
8) I will check my emails first thing in the morning before breakfast, at lunch and before bed (unless of course I am waiting for something)
9) I will organize my desk each evening preparing for the next day and the new no-distraction rules
10) Can’t think of any more but I am sure there are some……!!!
Can I do it? I must. I have no choice. When the 30 days is finished I want to create something really great for internet marketing newbies (why do I so often hit the “b” instead of the “n” when typing newbies????). Maybe a diet plan which includes the willpower to resist freebie offers? Help is needed and I will be strong…watch this space for further confessions in the coming days.
